In developing the frequent law, academic writings have at all times played an essential half, both to collect overarching principles from dispersed case law, and to argue for change. William Blackstone, from round 1760, was the first scholar to collect, describe, and train the widespread law. But merely in describing, students who sought explanations and underlying constructions slowly modified the way in which the law really worked.
